SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XDS GEN 1 PRE-RECALL DETAIL DISASSEMBLY
This is part 6 of a 6 part article series focusing on the complete 100% detail disassembly of the Springfield Armory XDS pistol.
Certified “SarrahCoater” Cuts Corners
We had a customer send us their newly refinished Springfield XD Classic for a sight install. Normally we will not install sights on a gun that has been refinished by someone else. You just do not know the quality of the work and what issues can arise. But I agreed to take on this job because it was refinished by a well known company.
PROJECT MVP - TACTI-COOL BUILD SERIES PART 2 - BOLT DISASSEMBLY
The first step in this Mossberg MVP transformation is to take the rifle apart and completely disassemble the bolt. Above we have a completely disassembled MVP bolt with all of the parts laid out. Take your time and make sure you do not lose or damage any of these parts
PROJECT MVP - TACTI-COOL BUILD SERIES PART 1
For Project MVP we are taking a factory Mossberg MVP 5.56mm bolt action rifle and tricking it out to be the envy of any MVP fan. We start above with two Mossberg MVP rifles as they come from the factory.
HOW TO: DURACOATING YOUR XDM
I wanted to do a write up on on this subject so anyone who is planning on doing it can avoid some minor mess-ups and find out what items that I bought which didn't work or I didn't need. I'll be breaking down this how to in segments.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE XDS STRIKER AND STRIKER PIN SAFETY
There are a lot of theories on why the XDS striker gets "damage" to its shoulder. To be able to show exactly whats happening I made a jig that allowed me to remove my extractor and be able to show what was going on behind the scenes.
COMPARING PRE VS POST RECALL XDS - WHAT CHANGED?
An archived article that shows the difference between pre recall and post recall Springfield Armory XDS pistols.
DO NOT USE A DREMEL TOOL TO REMOVE YOUR SIGHTS
DIY gone too far! this poor guy took the online experts advice and used a Dremel tool to remove his Springfield XD sights. Chios ensued.
M&P SHIELD BAD SIGHT INSTALL
Get a Bigger Hammer - Gunsmith
It is never a good idea to get a bigger hammer when doing any gunsmithing!
BEWARE OF THE INEXPERIENCED
Not all gunsmiths have the same level of experience or work ethic. This customer had a local gunsmith install his brand new set of XS 24/7 Big Dot sights on his brand new Stainless Steel Springfield Armory XD. The smith made several errors that made for a nasty final product.
XDM 5.25 KABOOM
If you do any work on firearms or components you need to remember your life depends on that work. Most likely this kaboom was due to a double charge of powder since it looks like half of the bottom of the case is missing.
XD 45GAP MAGAZINES HOW TO MAKE ONE
The twelve round XD-40/357 magazine will hold nine rounds of 45gap ammo just like the dedicated 45gap magazine. Any stock XD magazine will hold and can feed the 45gap round including the 9mm magazines.
Using 40sw Magazines as full capacity 9mm mags
While this might be a blast from the past from most of Free America. We have partisans behind enemy lines that this information is still useful for.
During the AWB XD-9 owners utilized a legal loop hole in order to have a full capacity magazines.
SPOT THE SHODDY WORK
The smith installed the sights and returned the pistol to the owner and took the payment for the job. Later on in the day the XD owner took the gun out to look at his brand new sights and to his horror finally noticed the damage to the slide.
“Gunsmith” Strikes Again
The sights are indeed off center, but the worst part is that the gunsmith mangled the sights when installing them. Supposedly the sights were installed using a sight pusher so its weird that the tab would be deformed as it is.
XDS KABOOM
It looks like this may have been another case of a reloading mistake and a double charge or maybe a rifle primer. Again anytime you are reloading ammunition it is always better to double check than to double your charge.
USE EPOXY TO GLUE YOUR SIGHTS IN PLACE?
This person's quick fix was to epoxy the loose sight in place and hope that it would not move under recoil. While this seems like a good idea, things can go wrong and they did.
