Is the Beretta 92 Still Relevant?
Is the Beretta 92 Still Relevant? Double action/single action all-metal pistols are no longer in vogue. Once the Beretta M9 pistol lost the U.S. military contract to a polymer single-action striker-fired pistol, the Tackleberry types moved on to the next high-speed, low-drag gear. I wonder if this is how the hardcore 1911 fanatics felt back in the 1980’s when they were sent out to pasture and replaced with modern hardware fresh from Italy.
ED BROWN ISN’T MAGIC; IT JUST LOOKS THAT WAY
At almost 53 years old and still family-owned, Ed Brown’s unrelenting standards and good old-fashioned engineering allow their gunsmiths to take a pistol like the S&W M&P and recreate it in such a way that it deserves the name Fueled by Ed Brown. For the last month I have had the opportunity to carry, test and use my second Ed Brown Fueled by M&P 2.0 Pistol.
Springfield Armory ECHELON Takes Point!
Springfield’s got a whole new force multiplier called the Echelon, and it’s definitely taking point. If an XD, Hellcat, and SIG 320 had the world’s weirdest three-way and had a baby, this would be a result. There are lots of spiffy new bells and whistles, but you can clearly see the heritage of the pistol underneath.
SPRINGFIELD ARMORY PRODIGY 1911 DOUBLE STACK
The Springfield Armory Prodigy is a modular, wide body, double stack ultra capacity 1911 pistol. Colloquially known as a 2011 style pistol. The original patents for this modular style 1911 pistol were granted back in 1994. Ironic since that was the start of the 94 Assault Weapons Ban. Think about it..what a time to develop and release an ultra capacity pistol. None the less, the 2011 race gun style pistols from companies like STI, SVI etc, dominated the USPSA/IPSC shooting games
Fugliest gun of the year: VIGILANCE RIFLES INC M20
The Model 20 is a 9mm Nato Submachine gun, that probably gets the award for Fugliest gun of the year. It features something I thought I would never write……ever. The M20 is built to take Promag Magazines. On the bright side the cheap magazines help offset the base price of 1699 plus 99.00 for shipping and handling.
Langdon Tactical-Tuned Springfield XD-E Pistol
The base Springfield Armory XDE is a fantastic pistol that is basically alone in its class. The single stack XDE is a hammer-fired double action/single action pistol. Being a single stack firearm means that compared to other DA/SA pistols this pistol is thin thin thin.
Freedom Ordnance FX9
Chandler, IN is home to Freedom Ordnance, an American firearm manufacturer. They produce the FX-9. The FX-9 is a pistol caliber carbine available as a 16” rifle or a 4” and 8” pistol length. There is also an 18” model exclusively for Canada. Freedom Ordnance decided to take a different approach to building their AR-9.
THE HELLCAT GOES PRO!
The Hellcat micro family grows today with the scaled-up Hellcat Pro. At this size Springfield Armory is directly taking on pistols like the Glock 19 and the SIG Sauer 365XL. At one time the Glock 19 was the most popular handgun sold in America, striking the “perfect” balance of size, capacity, and shootability. Like everything else, time catches up with design and it is almost laughable that we used to consider a gun the size of a Glock 19 concealable. While the length and height is pretty damn close with a Glock 19
